Sean Sherk punched me

I attended a Sean Sherk seminar at my sister school in Austin TX yesterday. He went over his game and how he trains focusing on the transition from western boxing to wrestling takedowns. After class I asked him for some pictures with different poses. One regular, now one of him “punching me” Then as they are holding my camera I say “ok now one of us making out” His reaction below: (notice he backed away)

Two things I took into strong consideration that I will add in my training routine other than what I learned yesterday…

1. Wrestling is explosiveness and he said the closest thing he can get to working on that power is sprinting bleachers 3 times a week because it is one long explosion, the same kind of explosion you would use for a few seconds to take down your opponent.

2. He saw someone after class doing sprawl drills on a bouncy ball, a technique used by some at our BJJ academy. He gave a tip that makes a lot of sense to me. The bouncy ball is about two and a half feet tall, where as a heavy kick bag is well under two feet tall and less elastic. He practices sprawl drills on the heavy bag so he can get lower to the ground (with less bounce) and can practice a hard sprawl and really dig that hip into the bag. Makes sense so I will try it out and see if my sprawl improves.
