The return of Mon
I was really happy when I saw Simon (aka Mon) come back to the gym 2 weeks ago. Mon is the son of Muay Thai legend Pairot Wor Wolapon (aka Goi), who is currently in Luxembourg training Claire Haigh and Brian Robertson for their fights on March 31st. I’ve known Mon since he first came to Phuket as a skinny little 13 year old. He’s done a lot of growing since then, and is now 16 and weighing 60kg. By the time he’s 20 he will be tall for a Thai and fighting in the heavier weight classes. He’s already fought at Lumpini and Rajadamnern stadiums in Bangkok and, just like his dad, is known for his left kick. Additionally, Mon has competed heavily in amateur boxing, winning gold medals at regional events.
For the last 6 months Mon has been in Hat Yai helping his family. Since his return to Tiger he has been training hard in preparation for his “comeback” fight this Wednesday. Today was a lighter day of training for him to let his body recover, tomorrow he will rest completely and then Wednesday night he will make his return to the ring at Bangla stadium.
