Friday Night Fight
Last night was fight night so here’s how thing’s went down.
Arrived at Bangla stadium and found out that I was going to be fight number 6 of 8 and be fighting a farang. I got ready and relaxed until it was nearly time to fight. After seeing my opponant Moo (one of my thai trainers) told me that my opponant looked like he wanted to use punches and kicks so told me to go forward and work for the clinch and knee, knee, knee.
It was time for me to get in the ring and I was feeling a little nervous but ready to go. The bell goes and round 1 begin’s. We both come out slow to start with to put the feeler’s out and he did land a few leg kicks and all I remember hearing is Robin shout “got to check those kicks”. I did start checking the kicks but then started to push forward to get in the clinch. In the later part of the round we got into a few exchanges which I was on the wrong side of and he ended up landing some heavy shots rocking me pretty bad. I managed to keep my composure and make it through the round. Inbetween rounds the corner were awesome giving me great advise and keeping me calm.
In the second I came out and tried to keep walking forward to get the clinch and work my knees. It was really working well for me and I was landing good knees and I could tell he was getting tired. It was taking his kicks and punches out the game and was allowing me to score good on points and make him tired. After the second round I was feeling good and my corner were telling me to keep up the work and clinch as I was scoring well.
The 3rd round was pretty much the same as the second but with me scoring a few takedowns. He did land a spinning back kick and a head kick but I was able to keep calm and stick to the plan of working in the clinch. At one point I landed a knee to the temple and a few punches and thought I was going to finish him but he was tough. Sitting in the corner after the 3rd I was feeling good I could see that he was tired and everybody was telling me he is tired and that I was doing good, I just had to keep going and finish strong in the last 2 rounds. Going into the 4th I was feeling confident and went out hard to clinch and tried not to give him any space to breath or work his kicks. Around mid way through the round he landed a low blow which send me to the canvas in agony, it was pain like I have never felt before. I had to crawl out the ropes to take timeout or the ref was going to count me out. I took time to try and recover but the pain was unreal, knowing I was only 1 round away from winning I tried to continue. I went back and was just hoping to make it through the round to get some more rest but he came out with some leg kicks which sent shooting pain to my abdominal/groin causing me to stop.
I went to the hospital after the fight to get check out as was in a lot of pain and was unable to go to the toilet. I got giving a injection of painkillers and some medication to help me with going to the toilet. I was unable to urinate for 3 hours after the fight and today have been passing blood, but the doctor did say that was better than not being able to urinate at all. The medication is working and things are getting better. I have to just keep taking the medicine and drink plenty of fluids.
I am taking the fight and experience as a positive and still fell as though I would have won but accindents do happen and after I rest up for the weekend I will get back into training and work on things for the next time.
Thanks to everyone for there support and my excellent trainers for getting me ready and looking after me.
Will try and get a video up soon.
